About The Trip
We first began discussing
gap years plans way back in the first year of our GCSE's, the plan was to
spend year in Cuba. What Changed? Well, Tim started reading more and more
about the USA, and despite hating most things American, began to love the
more quirkier bits of the USA, the small Punk Scenes, the Greyhound buses
and people who hated George Bush. Dejan stopped being so much of a
Guevararist, and started looking at the rest of South America, endless
nights spend on wikipedia researching South America's natural wonders. Our
plan as of the beginning of 2006 was to also travel to Eastern Europe as
well, but that will have to be the less dramatic sequel, saved for another
time.
We are not travelling for charity or for an exciting thing to stick in a CV,
we are doing purely because it will be the most memorable and important
thing we've done so far.
About Dejan
(
By
Tim)
Dejan was born in Tuzla, Bosnia. But was brainwashed
and taught in England, Dejan has
grown up a bizarre chap.
He has a unstoppable thirst
for information which means he must have a brain with a high sponge to cell
matter ratio. He has attended two Catholic schools, which is odd as he is an
atheist. Some of the many many obsessions he has
had include;
Wrestling, The Ramones, Gary Coleman, Drumming, James Brown, Cartooning,
Mitch Clem, Wikipedia, The Misfits and many more. Most of these explain why
he is usually still awake at 4am, learning more and more tiny details.
There
are positive aspects to his personality as well,
but we don't talk about them. Ok, just this once. Without his determination,
this trip could
not have happened, he is the organized
one on this trip. He will get us places and ensure we aren't still in New
York come April.
About Tim
(by Dejan)
I’m
not sure where to start, I was going to mention our humble beginnings
with wrestling stickers, or perhaps the nu-metal days (oh yes I remember
"macfeedy repeat" and "slip day", Tim) but instead I’ve decided to spare
Tim the embarrassment.
He’s always been energetic, funny, and just plain nuts at times but I’ve
rarely had a bored moment around Tim which is perhaps why I want to do
this trip with him, or could it be that sub consciously my sadistic side
is laughing at how the contradiction between my meticulous
organisational tendencies and Tim’s ‘lets just do it’ ness, will affect
us when we’re living together 24 hours a day, for 5 months.
Either way I’m really looking forward to doing this with Tim and know
that despite everything we’ve finally ticked one thing off our life ‘to
do’ list.
